Our story
La Pizza 1789 began with a couple and a leap of faith. Aurélie and Dominique Bartschies left France to make a home in Miami and to build the kind of place they’d always wanted to walk into: unpretentious, generous, and full of the flavors they grew up loving. Tucked into the Sunset district of South Miami, their restaurant-pizzeria has quietly become one of the neighborhood’s best-kept secrets.
Made by hand,
fired by wood
At the heart of the restaurant is a wood-fired oven and everything revolves around it. Our dough is made in-house every day and left to prove slowly, then baked over a live wood flame that gives each pizza its signature blistered, smoky char: crisp at the edge, tender in the middle, impossible to fake. No conveyor ovens, no shortcuts. Just fire, flour, and time.
That same fait maison spirit runs through the whole kitchen: homemade pasta, sauces built from scratch, ingredients chosen because they taste right not because they’re easy. It’s slower, it’s more work, and it’s exactly why people keep coming back.
What's on the table
The pizzas are the stars from a classic Margherita Bufala to the fig, burrata and prosciutto that regulars order on repeat with dairy-free and vegan options so no one gets left out. Alongside them : fresh homemade pasta, crisp salads, and generous sandwiches.
Save room for dessert !! The homemade tiramisu has a loyal following, but the one everyone talks about is the wood-fired Nutella pizza warm, gooey, and even better with fresh strawberries and banana.
Come as you are !
We light the oven before we open and it stays lit until the last pizza goes out. That’s the whole promise: dough made this morning, a live flame, and nothing coming out of a freezer. Aurélie and Dominique are in the restaurant most days if you want something a certain way, ask. Catering and group bookings work the same way.
